October 22, 2007 – ATLANTA – For the third time this season, Kicker Michah Streiff was named SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week, by conference officials.
Freshman offensive lineman Darius Raines received Honorable Mention recognition, as did linebacker Earl “The Tiger” Thomas.
The honors were based on efforts in the 22-13 Homecoming win over Clark Atlanta.
Streiff punted seven times for a 44.6 yards-per-kick average and kicked a 36-yard field goal and an extra point. The 5’-11” junior from Decatur, GA is the second-leading punter in the conference. He also made the listing as an Honorable Mention designee twice this season.
Thomas made the POW honor roll for the second time this season. The junior from Houston, TX had a monster game against CAU, recording 7 tackles, 2.5 quarterback sacks and returned a fumble 40 yards for a touchdown.
Raines made the SIAC weekly honor roll for the first time this season. The 6’-1” 235-pound freshman from Fort Valley, GA has been a mainstay in a solid offensive line. In the CAU game, Morehouse coaches graded Raines at better than 90 percent and credited him with three pancakes. A pancake is recorded when a player puts an opposing player flat on the ground.
At least one Maroon Tiger has been named to the POW honor roll in seven of the eight weeks it has been issued this season. The best showing was the week ending September 22, when Maroon Tigers were named to four of the five top spots.
