October 6, 2007 – COLUMBUS, GA – Morehouse fell behind early and never recovered, on the way to a 33-10 loss to Tuskegee in the 72nd annual classic in Columbus.
The loss broke a three-game Morehouse win streak, the first in six years, and dropped the Maroon Tigers to 4-2 (2-2 SIAC). Tuskegee improved to 5-0 (4-0 SIAC) and extends its win streak to nine games, dating back to last season.
Tuskegee showed why it has the number one team ranked offense and defense in the SIAC. The Golden Tigers scored on their first three possessions in the first quarter and held the Maroon Tigers scoreless through three quarters. The Golden Tigers converted a Carlos King fumble and interception into touchdowns midway through the first quarter and never looked back.
Morehouse did all its scoring in the fourth quarter. Micah Streiff kicked a 30-yard field goal early in the quarter and Carlos King caught a 30-yard pass from Christian Sterling, the backup quarterback who took over for him in the second half.
One of the bright spots for Morehouse was the 120 yards on five receptions by receiver James Steadman.
Kelvin Moore, the only Morehouse player from the Columbus area, led the team in rushing with 76 yards on 19 carries.
Christian Sterling completed 9-of-22 passes for 125 yards, but he was sacked three times. King completed 6-of-9 passes for 70 yards. He was intercepted once and sacked once.
Christian Green, the cornerback-turned-kick returner continued to show promise, with three returns for 72 yards.
Free safety Derrick Scott was awarded the Morehouse MVP trophy. The junior from Bronwood, GA. intercepted two Tuskegee passes and made five tackles. Running back John Pascley, who scored on runs of 1, 41 and 2 yards, won the MVP award for Tuskegee.
Linebacker Earl Thomas led the Maroon Tigers in tackles with seven, all of them solo tackles. Erick Shelton and Jeffrey Cargile collected six tackles each.
After four consecutive road games, Morehouse will return to B.T. Harvey Stadium, Saturday, at 7 p.m., for a game against Savannah State. This game was originally scheduled to be played in Augusta, GA, as part of the CRSA Classic. Instead Clark Atlanta and Benedict will play in that classic.
