October 5, 2007 – ATLANTA – Former Maroon Tiger Isaac Keys has added new life to his football career and his new team, signing with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.
Keys, 6’-3” 247 lbs., plays rush end for the Eskimos, the CFL equivalent to defensive end, the position he played at Morehouse.
A three-time All-SIAC honoree, the 29-year-old St. Louis native was the keynote speaker of the Morehouse All-Sports Awards Banquet in April.
Keys was one of the first Morehouse graduates to make it to the NFL, though he played almost exclusively on practice squads as a linebacker. Signed first by the Minnesota Vikings, he’s made stops in Green Bay, NFL Europe with the Scottish Claymores and three years with the Arizona Cardinals.
Since signing midseason, Keys has gotten plenty of playing time is credited with helping the Eskimos win back-to-back games. At 5-7-1, the Eskimos sit in the basement of the CFL West Division, but hold out hopes of making the playoffs.
John David Washington, the Morehouse single-game, season and career rushing leader is the latest Maroon Tiger to make it to the NFL. He is in his second year on the practice squad of the St. Louis Rams.
