Maroon Tigers were all over the Player of the Week results released Monday by SIAC officials. Based on the their performances in the 42-16 thrashing of Concordia College-Selma, reserve quarterback Christian Sterling was named Offensive Player of the Week; linebacker Earl Thomas was named Defensive Player of the Week; cornerback Brandon Morgan was named Special Team Player of the Week and Ramon Harewood was named Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Sterling, a 6’-0” 180-lb sophomore from Houston, TX, completed 18-of-28 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown, on the way to guiding the Maroon Tigers to 408 yards of offense.
Thomas, a 6’-2” 225-lb junior from Houston, TX, recorded 10 tackles and a sack and led a Maroon Tiger defense that stymied the Concordia offense.
Morgan, a 5’-9” 175-lb SR from Albany, GA, ran back two kickoffs for a total of 92 yards, including an 80-yarder for a touchdown. In addition to his kick return accomplishments, Morgan doubles as a cornerback. In the Concordia game, he recorded four tackles and a pass breakup. Morgan is the second best pass defender in the conference, with three interceptions and four pass breakups.
Harewood, a 6’-8” 310-lb sophomore from Barbados, led a Morehouse offensive line that gained 408 total yards. The front line allowed no sacks and scored on three of four chances in the red zone. This is the second Lineman of the Week honor for Harewood.
