August 27, 2007 – ATLANTA – Morehouse place kicker and punter Micah Streiff was named Special Teams Player of the Week by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Streiff (pronounced strife), who hails from Decatur, transferred to Morehouse this semester from Tennessee State University.

In the 23-14 win over Benedict on Saturday, the junior kicker punted nine times for a 45.2 yard average, which led the conference. Six of his punts pinned Benedict inside the 20 yard line, giving the visiting Tigers poor field position and benefiting the Morehouse defense. Streiff also kicked a 36-yard field goal and hit 2-of-3 PAT’s (points-after-touchdown).

Offensive lineman Joseph Williams received Honorable Mention as Player of the Week for his performance on a Morehouse offense that gained 364 and surrendered no sacks.

Wide receiver Achille Hendje also received Honorable Mention for POW honors, for catching five passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. Hendje’s 100 receiving yards led the conference in week one. Teammate James Steadman caught six passes for 82 yards. His feat tied for first in receptions and fifth in yardage in conference stats in week one.

Carlos King’s 227 passing yards ranked him second among SIAC quarterbacks on opening day. King connected on 18-of-35 passes for two touchdowns.

Running back Kelvin Moore’s 106 yards rushing was the fourth best in the SIAC, on Saturday.

Fred Strickland was the second best punt returner in the SIAC, returning three punts 36 yards and Christian Green returned two kickoffs for 43 yards for the second best average in the conference.
