July 20, 2007 – ATLANTA – Three Maroon Tigers were named to the SIAC Preseason All-Conference team and Morehouse was projected to finish last in the conference for the 2007 football season. The announcements were made by Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference officials at the SIAC Football Kickoff luncheon today.
Nominations, voting and projecting the order of finish is done by the head football coaches of the 10 SIAC schools that field football teams. However records indicate that only seven coaches submitted ballots.
Albany State, winner of the last five SIAC titles, was picked to finish first, followed by Tuskegee and Fort Valley. The complete list of All-Conference designees and the projected order of finish is available at the SIAC web site www.thesiac.com/.
Tight end Ernest Everett and offensive lineman Joseph Williams were named to the first team and Ramon Harewood was named to the second team.
Williams, a 6’-3” 280-lb junior from Savannah, Ga., played a key role in the Morehouse front line that led the conference in total offense for most of last season.
Harewood, a 6’- 8” 310-lb sophomore from Barbados, played sparingly last year on the defensive line, where he recorded seven tackles. He will switch this season to the offensive line to compensate for the loss of four starters from last year’s team.
Everett, a 6’-2” 250-lb junior from Hinesville, Ga., was used mostly as a blocker last season. His only catch was a two-point conversion in a 55-29 loss to Tuskegee.
Morehouse finished the 2006 season in eighth place in the SIAC, with a record of 3-8. The Maroon Tigers defeated Benedict and Concordia colleges. The other victory came courtesy of Miles College, which had to forfeit its six victories, including a 38-9 win over Morehouse, for using ineligible players.
