July 26, 2006 – ATLANTA – Morehouse was predicted to finish ninth in the 10-team race for the 2006 SIAC football title.
The projected order of finish, which was voted on by SIAC football coaches, was announced today by conference officials, along with the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Despite being picked to finish sixth in 2005, Morehouse ended up in ninth place, with a record of 3-7 (2-7 SIAC). Only undefeated Lane College finished lower last year and is predicted to repeat that futility.
The SIAC champion will play the champion of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in the Pioneer Bowl IX, December 2, in Charlotte.
Last year, SIAC runner-up Tuskegee (11-1) defeated Bowie State 28-26 in the nation’s only post-season bowl game for historically black colleges and universities. Albany State (11-1) won the 2005 SIAC title, but skipped the Pioneer Bowl to play in the NCAA Division II national playoffs.
