May 1, 2006 – ATLANTA, GA – Morehouse College senior running back John David Washington has agreed to sign a free agent contract with the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League.

Details of the contract have not been released. Washington will report to the Rams free agent training camp this weekend.

Washington, whose father is Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington, made a name for himself at Morehouse, ending his career as the school’s single-game (242 yards), single-season (1,198 yards), and career (3,699 yards) leading rusher. Washington earned all-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first-team honors in 2005 as the conference’s leading rusher.

John David earned SIAC Offensive Player of the Week six times throughout his career, including September 17, 2005, when he also earned National Player of the Week honors from D2Football.com.

Washington is a 5’-10” 200-lb sociology major from Toluca Lake, Ca.
