September 25, 2004 – LEXINGTON, KY – In a game that could have easily gone the other way, the Maroon Tigers missed a prime opportunity to win their third straight game, Saturday, losing instead 21-19 to the Kentucky State University Thorobreds.

The game, billed as the Lexington Heritage Classic, saw the Maroon Tigers let one slip away, just as they did last year, when the Thorobreds won the game 24-23 on a touchdown and extra point with 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

On offense, running backs John David Washington (119 yards and a touchdown) and Byron Comer (73 yards), and wide receivers Raymond Johnson ( 5 catches for 76 yards) and Corey Russ (4 catches for 31 yards) paced the Maroon Tigers and kept the chains moving.

On defense, Adrian Johnson (9 tackles) and William McKnight (8 tackles) led the way for Morehouse. Johnson’s crushing tackle on the one-yard line forced a K-State fumble that thwarted a touchdown and kept the Tigers in the game.

With the loss, Morehouse dropped to 2-3 (1-2 SIAC), while Kentucky improved to 4-1 (2-1 SIAC).

The Maroon Tigers will have two weeks to recover, before squaring off against Tuskegee University in the Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic, October 9, at 1:30 p.m., in Columbus, GA. Morehouse defeated Tuskegee last year 16-13 in triple overtime.
