August 1, 2003 - The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers were predicted to finish in fourth place in the battle for the 2003 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) football championship crown. Predictions were announced during the SIAC's 2003 Football Kickoff Press Conference and Luncheon, held July 25, in Norcross.
Nearly 200 SIAC personnel, game officials, coaches, athletic administrators, and sports information directors of the SIAC attended the annual event.
Newly appointed SIAC Commissioner Dr. William Lide released the names of the All-SIAC preseason first and second team selections. Morehouse seniors Robert Kilpatrick (defensive lineman) and Andre Warren (linebacker) and sophomore John David Washington (running back) were named to the first team. Seniors Kevin Coleman (center) and Daniel Cramer (offensive lineman) were named to the second team.
Albany State had the most selections (six) on the first team, followed by Tuskegee, with five; Fort Valley, with four; Miles, with three; Kentucky State, with two; Benedict and Clark Atlanta, with one each.
SIAC officials also announced a partnership with the MBC television network. The African American network, owned jointly by famed attorney Willie Gary, heavyweight boxer Evander Holyfield and former major league baseball player Cecil Fielder, will broadcast 38 black-college football games nationwide this season.
The Morehouse homecoming game with Clark Atlanta will air on Comcast digital cable channel 272. The November 1 game will be played at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast by tape delay at 7 p.m.
