August 26, 2008 ATLANTA The Morehouse cross country team has been projected to finish seventh in the South Region, in a preseason poll of coaches who are members of the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The ranking was based on Morehouse winning the 2007 SIAC cross country championship and a strong showing by the Maroon Tigers in the regional championships.
Benedict was the only SIAC team to make the preseason poll. The Columbia, SC-based school was also picked ahead of Morehouse in the 2007 SIAC preseason poll, but the Maroon Tigers easily outran Benedict in the conference championship, held in Atlanta.
Morehouse has won 13 consecutive SIAC cross country championships and head coach Willie H. Hill was named 2007 SIAC Coach of the Year. Hill was also the USTFCCCA 2006 Coach of the Year for Cross Country and Indoor Track and Field.
