May 14, 2008 – ATLANTA – For the second time in three years, Morehouse has won the SIAC Commissioner’s All-Sports Award.
Morehouse won the coveted award on the strength of conference titles by the track and field and cross country teams and second-place finishes by the golf and tennis teams.
Compiling 34 points in the 2007-08 all-sports computing, Morehouse outdistanced second-place Tuskegee (27 points) and third-place Benedict (21 points).
In 2005-06, Morehouse shared the Commissioner’s Cup title with Albany State, which won the title last year, but finished in fourth place this year.
In the women’s division, the Lady Rams of Albany State won the title for the fifth consecutive year.
A scoring system of 10 points for 1st place, 7 points for 2nd place and 4 points for 3rd place is used to determine the All-Sports standings for the SIAC’s 12-member institutions. Football is determined by the regular-season finish. The men’s and women’s basketball tournaments are single-elimination and do not offer consolation games.
