September 16, 2006 – ALBANY, GA – If the headline of this story or the results –seen below – seem redundant, it’s because the Flying Maroon Tigers have made it a habit of winning big this season.
But it’s more than just winning, it’s total domination. In every conference meet this season, the Morehouse cross country runners have nearly lapped the competition.
In Saturday’s meet against the Albany State Golden Rams, Morehouse took the top four positions in the race and six of the top eight spots.
Senior Alex Brickler led the way for Morehouse, running the eight-kilometer course in 25:59.95. The history major from Tallahassee finished three seconds ahead of teammate Julius Hanks.
Brickler, who was twice named SIAC Runner of the Week, and Hanks, who pushes himself and his teammates to excel from beginning to end, have finished in the top six in every meet this season. Against SIAC opponents, they have finished 1-2 every time.
Hot on their heels in this and every race were Danny King and Yafet Abraha, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
Kevin Chase, seventh place, and De’Andre Cherry, eighth place, completed the scoring for Morehouse, which won the dual meet by a score of 16-41.
Ross McMillan, noted more for middle distances, brought up the rear for the Maroon Tigers, with a respectable time of 34:39.97
