September 2, 2006 – ATLANTA – The Flying Maroon Tigers showed why they were predicted to repeat as SIAC champions, with a runaway victory in the Morehouse Cross Country Invitational, at Atlanta’s Mozley Park.

In the season’s first cross country meet against conference opponents, Morehouse jumped out to an early lead and pulled away from the pack.

Taking complete control over the entire eight-kilometer course, Morehouse harriers captured seven of the top nine spots in the race where the times of the first five runners of each team are tabulated.

Morehouse senior Alex Brickler led almost the entire race and crossed the finish line first with a time of 28:03. He was trailed by teammates Julius Hanks, Danny Harris and Gary Kennebrew, who finished in that order. Only a fifth-place finish by Fredrick Smith of Claflin University prevented a Morehouse sweep.

De’Andre Cherry, Daniel King and Kevin Chase finished sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively, and completed the Morehouse rout.

Morehouse tallied 16 points, followed by Claflin (66 pts), Fort Valley (82 pts), Clark Atlanta (99 pts.), Albany State (122 pts) and Tuskegee (130 pts).

For the overwhelming victory, Bricker was named the SIAC Runner of the
Week and Morehouse was the SIAC Team of the Week.
