Grady Brewer
  Head Coach

The 2005-06 basketball season will be the sixth for Grady L. Brewer as the Morehouse College head basketball coach.

Brewer has hit the coaching ranks in grand fashion, after serving as an assistant coach for 13 years under legendary Morehouse coach Arthur McAfee, who coached him in college.

During his first five years as the Maroon Tigers’ head coach, Brewer has compiled an impressive 103-44 record that translates into a .701 winning percentage. That winning percentage ranks him seventeenth among active NCAA Division II head coaches.

Brewer earned his 100th career win in 2005, with a 67-52 win over Fort Valley State University. That feat makes Brewer the fastest coach in Morehouse College history to reach 100 wins. By comparison, Brewer reached 100 victories faster than many noteworthy Division I coaches, including Dean Smith, Mike Krzyzewski, Bobby Knight and John Chaney.

Brewer’s 103 victories as a head coach at Morehouse place him fourth in school history. His .701 winning percentage ranks him second all-time.

Over the last five years, Brewer has continued the Morehouse basketball tradition as one of the top Division II basketball programs in the country. During that time he has led Morehouse to four 20-win seasons, four SIAC regular season championships, an SIAC tournament championship and two NCAA tournament appearances.

Last year, Brewer guided the Maroon Tigers to a 16-13 record and to the SIAC tournament semi-finals.

An Atlanta native, Brewer possesses excellent credentials. As a player, he prepped under the legendary Donald Dollar in the celebrated basketball program at Frederick Douglass High School. At Morehouse, Brewer lettered in each of his four years and was a starter for his final two years.

As a coach, Brewer served as an assistant coach at Atlanta’s Booker T. Washington High School and helped lead the Bulldogs to the 1987 Georgia 4-AAAA state championship.

Brewer and his lovely wife, the former Loletta Middleton, are the parents of three sons Ryan, age 17, Xavier, age 5, and Jordan age 1.
