
February 3, 2010 – ATLANTA – Because of his outstanding play in two games last week, Jelani Figures was named the SIAC Player of the Week, by conference officials.
Figures, a junior from Mobile, AL poured in 36 points, in Thursday’s win over Clark Atlanta and 28 points in Saturday’s loss to Albany State, for a 32-point average. In that two-game stretch, he also collected 11 rebounds and six assists. The POW is determined by a preset formula that factors points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocked shots.
A frequent starter in 2008-09, Figures sat out the first semester of this season, to focus on academics. Since returning to the lineup, the 6’-5” guard has averaged 20.4 points-per-game and stands atop the SIAC scoring leader board.
Since his return, the Maroon Tigers have won five of the last 10 games, after starting the season at 0-5.
