December 3, 2009 – ORANGEBURG, SC – The 2009-10 Maroon Tigers, one of the youngest teams in school history, will have to wait another day for their first victory.
Morehouse suffered its worst loss of the season, 76-59, to the Claflin Panthers, last year’s regular-season SIAC champion.
Claflin, the consensus favorite to repeat as champions, jumped out to a double-digit lead and never relinquished it. After falling behind 14-3, early in the first half, Morehouse never came closer than 11 points, and trailed by as many 23, late in the second half.
Most of the Morehouse scoring came from two veterans and a freshman. Junior Roderick Williams, sophomore Reginald Williams and freshman Keon Blackledge combined for 47 points.
Rod Williams, the team’s senior citizen, hit 6-of-7 shots and four free throws, to tie Blackledge, with a team-high 16 points. Williams also hauled in nine rebounds.
Morehouse will close out the 2009 segment of the season, Saturday, at 3 p.m. against Miles, at Forbes Arena.
