TIGERS BURNED BY DRAGONS

TIGERS BURNED BY DRAGONS

February 26, 2009 – ATLANTA – In another one of those o-so-close games, Morehouse lost a 61-58 nail-biter to the Lane College Dragons, the SIAC’s number three team.

It was a game the Maroon Tigers had in their grasp and it was the seventh loss this season by four points or less.

Leading almost the entire game, Morehouse flirted with a major upset and the chance to avenge a 91-55 loss to the Dragons, in January. But, like the 33 missed shots and 22 turnovers, the game slipped through the Tigers’ paws.

Neither team shot well from the floor or the free-throw line. Morehouse hit only 11-of-20 free throws; Lane hit only 19-of-36. Most of the Morehouse misses occurred right around the basket, where shot after shot clanged off the goal and into the hands of the Dragons.

Kenney Boyd and Travis Floyd tied for game-high scoring honors, with 16 points each.

Boyd, a senior from Meridian, MS, hit 6-of-9 shots from the field and all four of his free throws. The team’s top scorer and rebounder grabbed a game-high nine boards and led the Tigers in rebounding for the eleventh time this year.

Floyd, a senior from Atlanta, hit 7-of-14 shots, including two three-pointers. He had a team-high five steals and two each of rebounds and assists.

Roderick Williams took only four shots, and hit three of them, to finish with nine points. The sophomore forward from Riverdale has moved into the number one spot in shooting accuracy in the SIAC. He is followed in that category by teammate J.P. Felder who added six points and five rebounds.

Three Dragons scored in double figures, to help Lane improve to 20-6 (18-5 SIAC).

Morehouse fell to 8-18 (6-17 SIAC).

Saturday is Senior Day at Morehouse, when the seniors will play their final home game of the season at Forbes Arena. Morehouse will take on the Kentucky State Thorobreds, at 3 p.m.
