TIGERS TOP TUSKEGEE

February 16, 2009 – TUSKEGEE, AL – Four Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, as Morehouse beat Tuskegee, 73-71, and claimed the season sweep.

The 67-63 Morehouse victory on January 24 broke a three-game losing streak to Tuskegee.

Monday's score was close the entire game and neither team led by more than six points. Tuskegee took a 31-28 lead at halftime, but Morehouse came out firing in the second half, hitting 80 percent of free throws and 58 percent from the field.

A layup by J.P. Felder broke the game’s tenth tie, to make it 69-67, and Travis Floyd and Jelani Figures hit four consecutive free throws to seal the victory.

Felder, the most accurate shooter in the SIAC, set the pace for Morehouse, with an all-around superb game. The senior power forward from Smyrna, GA hit 8-of-11 shots and two free throws for a team-high 18 points. Gaining his seventh double-double of the season, Felder blocked shots and tied with teammate Kenney Boyd for a game-high 10 rebounds.

Not to be outdone, Boyd also recorded his seventh double-double of the season. Last week’s SIAC Player of the Week again showed off his all-court prowess with, 15 points, five assists, a block and a steal.

Following up a 4-of-4 shooting performance against Clark Atlanta on Saturday, Roderick Williams hit 5-of-5 shots against Tuskegee and pulled down eight rebounds.

Also coming off a big game against CAU, in which he scored a career-high 15 points, Jelani Figures came off the bench to contribute 14 points. Figures hit 6-of-6 free throws in the second half.

Paul Williams scored six points and handed out five assists and team-leading scorer Larry Diamond took only four shots, hitting one three-pointer.

The streaking Maroon Tigers have won the last 3-of-4 games and improved to 8-14 (6-14 SIAC).

Tuskegee’s Jermale Jones outscored all players with 30 points, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Golden Tigers from falling to 5-17 (5-14 SIAC).

Morehouse travels to Memphis, Wednesday, to face the Magicians of Lemoyne-Owen who beat the Maroon Tigers 99-68, on January 12.
