February 12, 2009 – ALBANY, GA – Morehouse squandered a 16-point second-half lead and lost in overtime to the Albany State Golden Rams, 74-71.
Morehouse led almost the entire game. A 13-point lead dwindled to eight at the end of the first half. The Maroon Tigers rallied in the second, doubling the lead to 16. But with six minutes remaining in regulation, the turnover bug bit and the lead quickly eroded. Morehouse committed 12 of its 18 turnovers in the second half.
An Albany State three-pointer with five seconds left tied the score at 56-all and sent the game into overtime.
Both teams went on a scoring barrage in the overtime, with the home team outscoring the Maroon and White, 18-15. The Golden Rams shot 5-of-6 and the Maroon Tigers shot 5-of-7, in the extra period.
The loss overshadowed an outstanding shooting game by Travis Floyd who tied his career-high of 18 points. The senior, reserve guard from Atlanta hit 6-of-9 shots, including four three-pointers.
Two other Tigers reached double-digit scoring, as Morehouse fell to 6-15 (4-14 SIAC).
Team leading scorer Larry Diamond recorded his second career double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Center Kenney Boyd came within a rebound of a double-double, with 15 points and nine boards.
J.P. Felder contributed nine points and six boards, Jelani Figures added seven points and five rebounds and Roderick Williams chipped in six points and two rebounds.
Three Golden Rams scored in double figures, as Albany State improved to 9-13 (8-11 SIAC).
