MOREHOUSE FALLS TO NUMBER ONE BENEDICT
February 5, 2009 – ATLANTA – Morehouse ran into the Benedict College buzz saw and failed to slow the nation’s number 14 team, losing 78-52.
The visiting Tigers came out hitting three-pointers and the Maroon Tigers had no answer. Benedict threw up 30 shots from beyond the arc -- hitting 12. Morehouse launched 12 and hit three.
Out-rebounded 47-35, Morehouse got little offensive momentum going in either half. The best Morehouse surge occurred in the closing minutes of the first half. Three baskets by center Kenney Boyd and one by forward J.P. Felder reduced a 15-point lead to eight, at the end of the first half.
Felder had the big game for the Maroon and White, with 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Felder added three blocks and two assists, to go with his sixth double-double of the season.
Boyd, surrounded by three defenders most of the time, was held to 14 points and five rebounds.
Larry Diamond had an off-scoring night, hitting 4-of-11 shots, for 11 points.
Five Benedict Tigers scored in double figures, led my Aubrey Brown who hit 5-of-12 three-pointers and finished with 18 points.
Morehouse dropped to 5-13 (3-11 SIAC). Benedict improves to 16-2 and a SIAC-leading 15-1.
Morehouse will travel to Orangeburg, SC, to play the Claflin University Panthers, the SIAC’s number two team, Saturday, at 3:30 p.m.
