January 31, 2009 – ATLANTA – Morehouse lost 72-62 to the Albany State Golden Rams.
The game was close throughout and the Maroon Tigers were always within striking distance, but cold shooting in the final three minutes led to a second straight loss.
Albany State’s bench proved to be a big difference in the game. The Golden Rams’ reserves outscored the Maroon Tigers’ reserves 38-18.
The Maroon Tigers fell to 4-12 (3-11 SIAC). Albany State improved to 8-9 (7-7 SIAC).
Larry Diamond was the high scorer for Morehouse, with 22 points. The team leading scorer hit 6-of-11 shots from the field and 10-of-13 free throws. He also added six rebounds and three assists. Diamond has recorded double figures in nine of the 11 games he has played in this season.
Guard Jelani Figures scored in double figures for the fifth time this season and had a strong all-around performance for the second straight game. The shooting guard from Mobile, AL chipped in 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and a game-high four steals.
Center Kenney Boyd scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Scheraun King’s 16 points topped four Golden Rams who scored in double figures.
Morehouse will play two home games next week – on Tuesday against Fort Valley and on Thursday against Benedict. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
