MOREHOUSE BEATS TUSKEGEE, ENDS SKID

January 24, 2009 – ATLANTA – Three Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, to help Morehouse break a nine-game losing streak and beat the Tuskegee Golden Tigers 67-63.

Tuskegee jumped out to an early lead and held on for most of the first half, until four consecutive Morehouse free throws and a lay-in by J.P. Felder put Morehouse up 36-32 at the half. The second half was a see-saw affair throughout, with six ties and 10 lead changes.

Morehouse went up for good, at 48-47 on one of three three-pointers by Paul Williams off of an assist by Jelani Figures.

The Maroon Tigers improved to 4-10 (2-9 SIAC).

J.P. Felder set the pace for the Maroon Tigers with his fifth double-double of the season. The power forward from Smyrna, GA hit 7-of-14 shots and four free throws for a game high 18 points. His 11 rebounds were surpassed only by teammate Kenney Boyd’s game high 15 boards.

The dynamic duo of Boyd and Felder helped the Maroon Tigers amass a 52-33 rebounding advantage.

Boyd, the senior All-SIAC center, recorded his second straight double-double, since returning to the lineup after a six-game absence. The Meridian, MS big man threw in 16 points, with 11 coming in the first half.

Paul Williams had his third straight double-digit game and fifth of the season, with 14 points, to go with four assists, three rebounds and two steals.

After missing four games with an ankle injury, Larry Diamond returned to the Morehouse lineup, scoring five points and pulling down five rebounds.

Jelani Figures chipped in four points, six rebounds and three assists, and Roderick Williams added five points and five rebounds.

Tuskegee got balanced scoring from the entire lineup, including double figures from Jermale Jones and Reginald Robinson. The Golden Tigers, who beat Clark Atlanta, on Thursday, dropped to 3-10 (3-7 SIAC).

Morehouse will take on arch rival Clark Atlanta, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played in Forbes Arena, but is a home game for Clark Atlanta. Morehouse fans will be charged an admission fee.
