MOREHOUSE LOSES NINTH IN ROW

January 22, 2009 – ATLANTA, GA – Despite the return to the Morehouse lineup by Kenney Boyd, the Maroon Tigers lost, 74-66, to the Stillman College Tigers.

With six lead changes and seven lead changes, the game was close from start to finish. Neither team enjoyed more than an eight-point lead. Morehouse lead by six points with six minutes remaining, but turnovers and missed free throws down the stretch led to the team’s ninth consecutive defeat.

Morehouse, which had beaten Stillman on December 2, for the only conference win, dropped to 3-10 (1-9 SIAC).

Boyd, an All-SIAC center who averages double-digits in points and rebounds, has missed the last six games with an academic issue. But he returned to the hardwood with a vengeance, turning in a monster game, though in a losing cause.

The 6’-8” senior recorded a game-high 21 points on 9-of-19 shooting and tied for game-high rebounding honors with teammate J.P. Felder. He also handed out three assists and blocked four shots.

Power forward Felder had nearly as strong a game, as he continued to make his presence felt on both ends of the court. Felder has been picking up the slack, in the absence of Boyd and team leading scorer Larry Diamond who has missed four games with an ankle injury.

Felder, a senior from Smyrna, hit 8-of-14 shots and five free throws, for 18 points. He also chipped in three assists and blocked two shots.

Guard Paul Williams recorded his fourth double-digit scoring effort, since joining the team in the second semester. Williams threw in 11 points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out a game-high six assists.

Five Stillman players scored in double figures, to help the Tigers improve to 3-9 (2-8 SIAC).

SCHEDULING NOTE: The home game against Tuskegee game, on Saturday, has been changed to 8 p.m.
