January 15, 2009 – FRANKFORT, KY – Even without top scorers Kenney Boyd and Larry Diamond, the Maroon Tigers kept it close to the end, before falling to the Kentucky State Thorobreds, 72-64.
Morehouse led at the half, 36-33, but committed 15 second-half turnovers and allowed KSU to pull away for the home win.
As they did in the last game, J.P. Felder, Paul Williams and Reggie Williams carried the scoring burden for Morehouse, with double-digit contributions.
Felder, the SIAC’s most accurate shooter, hit 8-of-11 shots, to lead the way for Morehouse with 17 points. He also pulled down four rebounds, handed out two assists and blocked two shots.
Paul Williams, a senior who missed the first six games in the fall semester to focus on academics, has been coming on strong with increased playing time.
Williams hit three of the team’s four triples, on the way to contributing 13 points, his highest total this season. He also chipped in three assists and two steals.
Increased playing time has also benefited freshman Reggie Williams, who threw in 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out two assists.
Roderick Williams bounced back from a sub-par game last week, with nine points, a game-high eight rebounds and three assists.
For KSU, Brandon McQueen poured in 16 points, to lead the Thorobreds, who improved to 3-8 (2-8 SIAC).
The Maroon Tigers slipped to 3-6 (1-5 SIAC) and will try to slay the Lane College Dragons, Saturday, at 3 p.m., in Jackson, TN.
