January 12, 2009 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers lost top scorer Larry Diamond – to injury – and the game to the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians, 99-68, for the second loss in three days.
Diamond, the Morehouse leading scorer, injured his left ankle, 12 minutes into the first half and didn’t return. He will be evaluated tomorrow and is listed as day-to-day.
Averaging 20 points per game, Diamond’s offense was sorely missed. Morehouse is already playing without double-digit scorer and rebounder Kenney Boyd, who is awaiting an eligibility decision.
In the absence of Boyd and Diamond, power forward J.P. Felder stepped up with his first double-double of the season. Felder, the most accurate shooter in the SIAC, hit 9-of-18 shots from the field, for 21 points, and led all rebounders with 10 boards.
Morehouse got an outstanding game from freshman Reggie Williams, who contributed 10 points, on 4-of-5 shooting, and grabbed six rebounds.
Senior Paul Williams turned in a second straight strong performance off the bench, with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Morehouse fell to 3-6 (1-5 SIAC).
Five Magicians scored in double figures, led by Darren Green, who scored 24 points. LeMoyne-Owen, which lost to Clark Atlanta, on Saturday, 74-72, moved to 4-8 (4-6 SIAC).
The Maroon Tigers will hit the road to play Kentucky State, on Thursday, and Lane, on Saturday, before returning to Forbes Arena on Tuesday, to face Paine, at 7:30 p.m.
