MAROON TIGERS LOSE TO GOLDEN BEARS

December 6, 2008 – FAIRFIELD, AL – In a down-to-the-wire game that featured multiple ties and lead changes, Morehouse came up a basket short against the Miles College Golden Bears, losing 82-81.

For the second straight game, turnovers were the deciding factor. The Maroon Tigers turned the ball over 18 times, compared to only nine turnovers for the Golden Bears who converted the Morehouse miscues into a 30-11 points-off-turnovers advantage. On Thursday, the Maroon Tigers turned the ball over 18 times in a loss against Claflin.

Four Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, led by power forward J.P. Felder who was high point man for the Maroon and White for the second straight game. The senior from Smyrna, GA hit 10-of-13 shots and 5-of-8 free throws, for a game-high 25 points. Felder also hauled in a game-high 16 rebounds, as part of his second double-double of the season.

Center Kenney Boyd registered his third double-double of the season, with 17 points and 12 rebounds, to go with three blocked shots.

Lawrence Diamond had another solid scoring game, pouring in 18 points, on 7-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The senior from Lithonia, GA added four rebounds, and five assists.

As he did Thursday against Claflin, guard Rico Gray came off the bench to contribute 10 points and two rebounds. Travis Floyd chipped in seven points and tied a game-high with eight assists.

Flawaan Flag and Leon McKinney scored 17 points each and led four Golden Bears in double figures.

Morehouse fell to 3-3 (1-2 SIAC) and Miles moved to 2-4 (2-2 SIAC).

The Maroon Tigers will be off until January 5, when they will face the Paine College Lions, in Augusta. The next Morehouse home game will be January 10, for a rematch against Miles.
