November 17, 2008 – NASHVILLE, TN – The Maroon Tigers got the 2008-09 season off to a good start, with a convincing, 65-45, win over the Bulldogs of Fisk University.
Morehouse kept it close in the first half, taking a 25-24 lead to the locker room. But the Maroon Tigers exploded in the second half, outscoring the non-conference rivals 40-21.
Lawrence Diamond, a senior from Lithonia, GA, who played sparingly in 2006-07, but sat out last year, carried the offensive load for Morehouse. Diamond hit 7-of-14 shots from the field and 5-of-6 free throws and pulled down three rebounds.
Sophomore Joshiah Anabraba had his best game as a Maroon Tiger. The 6’-9” 290-lb sophomore from Mobile, AL contributed 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
Newcomer Justin Jack, who transferred this year from Mt. San Jacinto CC, in California, chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
Kenney Boyd, last season’s leading scorer and rebounder, scored seven points and five rebounds and Jerry “JP” Felder added eight points and four rebounds.
The Maroon Tigers will be idle until Thanksgiving Day, when they travel to Milwaukee, WI, to play in the two-day, four-team Fresh Coast Basketball Classic.
The first home game is December 4, at 7:30 p.m., against the Panthers of Claflin University.
