March 5, 2008 – BIRMINGHAM, AL – For the third consecutive year, Morehouse has been eliminated from the SIAC tournament in the first round.
This year’s early dismal came at the hands of the Tuskegee Golden Tigers who beat the Maroon Tigers 88-78. It was second time in three years that Tuskegee showed Morehouse the early gate.
Morehouse fell into an early hole and never recovered. As it has been all season, turnovers were the Maroon Tigers worst enemy. The Maroon and
White lost the turnover battle 22-11, which led to a 27-10 points-off-turnovers disadvantage and the difference in the game.
Three Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, including seniors Jason Reese and Brenden Stoner, who played in their final collegiate games.
Reese hit 6-of-11 shots for 14 points and pulled down two rebounds. Stoner used 7-of-7 free throws to pad his total of 16 points, to go with six rebounds.
The loss spoiled an outstanding game by Morehouse center Kenney Boyd who a day earlier was named to the SIAC All-Conference Team. The 6’-8” junior from Meridian, MS hit 9-of-15 shots from the field and 7-of-8 free throws for a game high 25 points.
Boyd also pulled down a game-high 19 rebounds. His total was more than double the nearest competitor and led the Maroon Tigers to a 42-31 rebounding advantage.
