March 4, 2008 – BIRMINGHAM, AL – Morehouse center Kenney Boyd was voted to the first team of the All-SIAC basketball team, conference officials announced today.
Boyd, a 6’-8” 320-pound junior from Meridian, MS, is the Morehouse second-leading scorer, behind senior Jason Reese, and the Maroon Tigers’ top rebounder.
Voted as one of the five best players in the conference, Boyd impressed Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches with his all-around game.
Boyd was the SIAC’s second leading rebounder, with 9.7 boards per game, and the sixth best scorer, averaging 15.3 points per game. He was also the second most accurate shooter from the field, with a .650 shooting percentage.
When he wasn’t scoring himself, the Morehouse “Man in the Middle” was helping his teammates score, as number 11 on the SIAC assist list.
Much of Boyd’s success can be attributed to his durability and endurance. Logging an average of 31.5 minutes per game, Boyd was number one on the Morehouse roster and number five in the SIAC in minutes played.
With his considerable talents recognized by the entire conference, Boyd must now help lead Morehouse into the SIAC tournament, which starts Wednesday.
The Maroon Tigers will tip off against the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee, Wednesday at 6 p.m., at Birmingham’s Fair Park Arena.
