MOREHOUSE FALLS IN OVERTIME TO CLARK ATLANTA

February 16, 2008 – ATLANTA – For the second time this season, Morehouse blew a late-game lead and lost to Clark Atlanta. The 85-77 loss, in overtime, marks the first time since 1998-99 that Morehouse has lost the season series to the cross-campus rivals.

In a scene almost identical to the 60-58 loss to the Panthers, on January 31, Maroon Tigers missed critical free throws in the final seconds of regulation that would have won the game.

With 22 seconds remaining and Morehouse ahead, 65-62, the Maroon Tigers missed three straight free throws that opened the door for the Panthers to tie the score. In the overtime, Clark Atlanta hit 20-of-22 free throws, for their only points in the extra period.

Four Morehouse starters scored in double figures and the Maroon Tigers out-rebounded the Panthers 42-37. But as they have all season, the Maroon and White lost the turnover battle, 25-17, and that proved to be the difference in the game.

For most of the game, Morehouse played without power forward J.P. Felder, who turned his ankle in the first half and logged only nine minutes.

Kenney Boyd hit 7-of-10 shots from the field and 8-of-10 free throws for a team high 22 points, to go with six rebounds.

Jason Reese tallied 12 points, to go with seven rebounds and four steals.

Travis Floyd scored 13 points and Brenden Stoner chipped in 11 points to round out the major scoring for Morehouse.

Freshman Najee Lane hit 9-of-16 shots from the field and 9-of-10 free throws to earn game-high scoring honors, with 22 points.

The Maroon Tigers dropped to 11-12 (8-11 SIAC). The Panthers improved to 11-11 (10-7 SIAC).

Morehouse will play Tuskegee in Forbes Arena, Monday at 7:30 p.m. In their last meeting the Golden Tigers beat the Maroon Tigers 70-68.
