MOREHOUSE SNAPS LOSING STREAK

February 14, 2008 -- ATLANTA -- Three Maroon Tigers scored in double figures and Morehouse snapped a six-game losing streak, winning 58-52 over the Albany State Golden Rams.

The balanced scoring was the best in more than two weeks and allowed the Maroon Tigers to halt one of the worst skids in more than 20 years.

Morehouse trailed 24-22 at halftime, but outscored the visitors 36-28 in the second half, to avenge a 17 point loss in Albany on February 2.

During the six-game slide, free throws and turnovers had de-clawed the Maroon Tigers. They won on both fronts today – hitting 70 percent of free throws in the second half and winning the points-off-turnovers battle 20-11. It was only the third time this season that Morehouse has had fewer turnovers than an opponent.

Brenden Stoner, who started the first 16 games but was benched as a starter, made a case for a return to the starting lineup, with his best game in more than two weeks. The shooting guard from Philadelphia tallied 16 points, to go with four rebounds and four steals.

Stoner hit 6-of-7 free throws down the stretch in the second half, to help hold off the charging Golden Rams who refused to roll over.

Team scoring leader Jason Reese tied Stoner for team-high scoring honors with 16 points. Reese sank 6-of- 12 shots and snagged five rebounds. He leads the team with 20 double-figure scoring games.

Center Kenney Boyd posted 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds that gave him 12 double-doubles on the year.

Forward Jerry Felder seemed to be wearing a “Return to Sender” stamp on the palms of his big hands, as he swatted away five Golden Rams’ shots. His blocks surpassed the entire Albany State team who recorded only four rejections. Felder pulled down seven rebounds and threw in five points.

Coach Grady Brewer got quality minutes off the bench from forward Kwame Agbottah who grabbed five rebounds and hit his only two shots for four points.

Jamell Elerbe led the Golden Rams, with a game-high 20 points. The defending SIAC champions have lost eight of their last 11 games and fell to 10-11 (8-9 SIAC).

Morehouse will face Clark Atlanta, Saturday, at 4 p.m. The game will be played at Forbes, but is a home game for the Panthers. Morehouse fans are required to pay an admission of $5 for students with a valid ID and $10 for all others.
