February 12, 2008 – ATLANTA – The downward spiral worsened for the Maroon Tigers who lost their sixth straight game, falling to the Fort Valley State Wildcats, 85-69.
The second home loss of the year dropped Morehouse below .500 for the first time this season. The Maroon and White fell to 10-11 (7-10 SIAC).
Fort Valley is headed in the other direction. The Wildcats have won eight straight games and improved to 10-12 (9-8 SIAC) under interim head coach Emory Lightfoot Jr.
As with most of the losses this season, turnovers and poor free-throw shooting fueled the Morehouse downfall. The 23 Maroon Tiger miscues led to 30 Fort Valley points, while Morehouse hit only 9-of-17 free throws.
Kenney Boyd led the Maroon Tigers with his eleventh double-double of the season. The 6’-8’ junior from Meridian, MS hit 7-of-10 shots for 16 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
The only other Maroon Tiger in double figures was Jason Reese who scored 10 points, to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Morehouse hit only 4-of-15 three-pointers. Half of those were by freshman Marcus Wedge who matched his season high of eight points.
Freshman Daniel Brown played 12 minutes – twice his season average – and contributed a season-high six points.
Fort Valley was led by Martrez Scott, with 21 points, and Tywann Mckoy, with 19 points.
Morehouse will host the Albany State Golden Rams, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m.
