February 2, 2008 – ALBANY, GA – Not even a shakeup of the starting lineup could make a difference for the Maroon Tigers, who fell again on the road, 76-59, to the Albany State Golden Rams.
Coach Grady Brewer inserted freshmen Marcus Wedge and Roderick Williams into the starting lineup, in favor of Kenney Boyd and Brenden Stoner. However, the change was not enough to stave off the defending SIAC champions, who have surged to 9-8 (7-6 SIAC) after a slow start.
Morehouse, on the other hand, lost for the third straight time and slumped to 10-8 (7-7 SIAC). The loss was the seventh on the road this season.
Wedge, a 6’-3” guard from Landover, MD, played only 11 minutes and took two shots, hitting one. Williams fared a little better. The 6’-5” forward from Riverdale, GA played for 24 minutes, hitting 3-of-5 shots for six points, while grabbing four rebounds and blocking two shots.
The Maroon Tigers kept it close for most of the game, but seemed to run out of steam, before being out-scored 19-8, in the final 10 minutes.
Morehouse committed 28 turnovers and paid dearly for the miscues. The winning margin matched the 30-13 points-off-of-turnovers advantage enjoyed by the Golden Rams.
Jason Reese rebounded from a season-low six points in the loss to Clark Atlanta, with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The Morehouse team captain grabbed four rebounds, before fouling out at the 2:46 mark.
Despite not starting, center Kenney Boyd logged 28 minutes and registered his tenth double-double of the season. Boyd hit 3-of-4 shots from the field and 4-of-5 from the free-throw line, for 10 points. His 12 rebounds were a game high and helped give the Maroon Tigers a 45-34 rebounding edge.
Four Golden Rams scored in double figures, led by Scheraun King and James Clark, who tallied 17 apiece.
Morehouse will stay on the road and face the 6-12 Fort Valley State Wildcats, Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m.
