January 21, 2008 – ATLANTA – As a reward for his outstanding all-around play in three games last week, Morehouse center Kenney Boyd was named the SIAC Co-Player of the Week, conference officials announced today.
Boyd, a 6’-8” junior from Meridian, MS, averaged 15.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4 assists and blocked 5 shots in Morehouse wins over Kentucky State and Lane and a loss to Lemoyne Owen.
Boyd shared the POW honors with Leon McKinney of Miles College, who averaged 23.5 points, 7 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists, in two wins.
The second leading scorer on the Morehouse team, behind Jason Reese (16.3 ppg.), Boyd averages 15 points per game for the season. He is the most accurate shooter in the SIAC at .662 and is the conference’s second leading rebounder at 9.5 board per game.
To further demonstrate his versatility and unselfish play, Boyd is the sixth leading assist man in the conference, at 3.23 assists per game. Generally, assist leaders are guards who do most of the ball-handling, such as Morehouse point guard Travis Floyd, who leads the SIAC in assists, with 5.08 per game.
POW winners are determined by a formula of statistics compiled at the end of each week.
