MAROON TIGERS BREATHE FIRE ON DRAGONS

January 3, 2008 – JACKSON, TN – Shaking off the road-loss blues, the Maroon Tigers grabbed their first road win of the season, with a convincing 83-57 victory over the Lane College Dragons.

Morehouse started off slowly, falling behind by 10 points midway through the first half. But the Maroon Tigers kicked their game into gear and pulled ahead 37-33 by halftime. A layup by center Kenney Boyd put Morehouse ahead at the 2:13 mark and the Maroon Tigers never looked back.

Two stats leap to the fore, as the keys to victory. The Maroon Tigers hit 22-of-30 free throws and committed only six turnovers, the lowest total this season.

Boyd scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the first period. His seven rebounds were also the game-high in that category.

Forwards Kwame Agbottah and Roderick Williams came off the bench to combine for 11 points in the first half, to help fuel the comeback. Agbottah also recorded three rebounds and four assists.

Three other Maroon Tigers scored in double figures.

Forward Jason Reese hit 6-of-9 shots for 15 points, to go with five rebounds and three steals. Jerry Felder added 11 points and five rebounds.

Travis Floyd bounced back from a sub-par game against Kentucky State on Tuesday, with a superb game against the winless Dragons. The junior point guard from Atlanta sank two three-pointers and went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, to finish with 12 points. Floyd added four steals, two rebounds, two assists and had no turnovers.

Guard Brenden Stoner led all players with six assists and chipped in six points.

All the Dragons who played scored at least two points and three tied for the team high, with 10 points each.

Morehouse improved to 6-2 (3-1 SIAC). Lane dropped to 0-6 (0-3 SIAC).

The Maroon Tigers return to Forbes Arena, Monday at 7:30 p.m., to face the Paine College Lions.
