MAROON TIGERS TAME TUSCALOOSA TIGERS

December 1, 2007 -- ATLANTA -- Jason Reese and Kenney Boyd recorded double-doubles and three other Morehouse starters scored in double figures, as the Maroon Tigers beat the visiting Stillman College Tigers, 75-69.

This was the second time this season that the starters scored in double figures.

Reese hit 6-of-10 shots and pulled down 10 rebounds, to go with four steals and two assists. Boyd hit 4-of-7 shots and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while handing out four assists and blocking two shots.

Point guard Travis Floyd hit a three-pointer at the 14-minute mark of the first half, to put the Maroon Tigers up for good. Floyd scored a team-high 16 points and dished out a game-high nine assists, to go with four rebounds and two steals.

Morehouse led 37-28 at the half and built a 16-point lead in the second half, before Stillman went on a hot streak and chipped away at the margin.

Faced with a large deficit, Stillman was forced to foul and Morehouse made them pay. Floyd sank 8-of-9 free throws and shooting guard Brenden Stoner hit 6-of-6 free throws. Many of those free throws came down the stretch and preserved the Morehouse victory in the first conference game of the year. The Maroon Tigers hit 22-of-32 free throws.

Stoner finished with 13 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Forward Jerry Felder contributed 13 points, on 6-of-10 shooting, to go with five rebounds and two assists. He had almost as good a game on defense, blocking a game-high five shots and picking off a steal.

Stillman’s Kenard Johnson (22 pts.) and Marquell Jones (14 pts.) led the Tigers from Tuscaloosa.

The win takes Morehouse to 4-1 and drops Stillman to 0-5.

Morehouse will face Miles College at Forbes Arena, Saturday at 3 p.m., in the last home game until January 7.
