TIGERS WIN THIRD IN ROW, BEAT TUSKEGEE

February 19, 2007 – TUSKEGEE, AL – Morehouse claimed its first three-game winning streak of the season and the second straight win on national television, with a 70-66 victory over Tuskegee.

Leading at halftime, 39-38, the Maroon Tigers seemed to have the game under control midway through the second half, when the turnover bug struck. What had been a 10-point lead quickly became a 3-point deficit. But the Maroon Tigers rallied on the strength of two free-throws and a driving left-handed layup by Jason Patterson that put the Maroon and White up for good. Two free throws by Will Belton iced the victory and calmed the nerves of the Morehouse fans who braved enemy territory.

Morehouse upped its record to 9-14 (9-12 SIAC).

In the game televised on ESPNU, four Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, for the second time in three games. Coincidentally, or not, it was the same Tigers who performed the feat Thursday in a road win over Albany State.

Center James Beasley led the way with 23 points – his season high. Beasley hit 8-of-11 shots from the field and 7-of-11 free throws. He also blocked fours shots.

Patterson his 3-of-5 shots and all four of his free throws, for 10 points, to go with nine rebounds and two assists.

Will Belton scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and was the game’s major thief, with five steals.

Marlon Ferguson rounded out the double-digit scoring, pouring in 13 points on 5-of-7 shots from the field and 3-of-5 free throws. The high jumping forward grabbed seven rebound and three steals.

Preston McCarter hit 10-of-15 shots, including four three-pointers, and 7-of-8 free throws, for 31 points, to lead the Golden Tigers who fell to 5-20 (5-15 SIAC).

Morehouse will play LeMoyne-Owen in Memphis on Wednesdays in the final game of the regular season. The Maroon Tigers beat LOC 85-62, at Forbes Arena, on January 15.

A win against the Magicians and the Maroon Tigers would enjoy some much needed momentum and a four-game win streak going in next week’s SIAC tournament in Birmingham.
