TIGERS DOWN RAMS, END LOSING STREAK

February 15, 2007 – ALBANY, GA – Four Maroon Tigers scored in double figures, to help Morehouse break a four-game losing streak and knock off Albany State 64-61.

The win avenges a 59-56 home loss to the Golden Rams two weeks ago in Forbes Arena and sets the stage for the upcoming home game against Clark Atlanta. The season’s second game against CAU will be played, at 4 p.m., at Forbes Arena and televised on CSTV (College Sports Television). Check local listings.

After an 8-0 Morehouse start, Albany State grabbed a 29-26 halftime lead. The Tigers fought back in the second half and the teams traded the lead 12 times. With 3:21 remaining, Will Belton took a pass from Jason Patterson and buried a three-pointer jumper, to put Morehouse ahead for good, at 60-59.

Three of the seniors who will be honored at Senior Day on Saturday provided most of the Morehouse punch, which improved to 7-14 (7-12 SIAC).

Belton hit 7-of-13 shots, with three three-pointers for 18 points, to go with five assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block.

Patterson hit 5-of-8 shots for 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Center James Beasley bounced back from his season low of two points against Fort Valley on Tuesday, to contribute 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Forward Marlon Ferguson also rebounded from a sub-par last game, to pour in 11 points, on 4-of-5 shoting and snag four rebounds.

Travon McGruder led the way for the Golden Rams with 22 points, on 10-14 shooting, to go with six rebounds. Two others scored in double figures, as ASU fell to 9-15 (9-10 SIAC).

Arthur McAfee the winningest basketball coach in Morehouse history will be honored at a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, prior to the Clark Atlanta game. At a 2:30 p.m. private luncheon in the Athletics Department conference room, the legendary head coach (1965-2000) and athletics director will host former players and assistant coaches. The festivities will move to the arena at 3:30 for a mid-court presentation. Former players and coaches are invited to attend.
