February 6, 2007 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers were out-rebounded, out-shot and generally out-hustled by the Fort Valley Wildcats on the way to the second worst beating of the season.

Tuesday’s 84-69 loss to the visiting Wildcats was surpassed only by the 71-54 loss to Kentucky State on January 2.

The Wildcats grabbed 15 more rebounds than the Maroon Tigers and shot 53.7 percent from the field, compared to 43.4 percent for the home team.

Close until midway through the first half, the game got out of hand when the Wildcats went on a 20-10 scoring run to grab a 44-31 halftime lead. The Maroon Tigers fared better in the second half, being out-scored only by two points, but the damage had already been done.

Scoring 16 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, guard Will Belton hit 5-of-7 shots from the field and 9-of-10 free throws. Belton’s nearly flawless free-throw shooting has kept him atop the SIAC in free throws made.

Forward Jason Patterson had a second straight scoring barrage, throwing in 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the field and 5-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Swingman Troy Brown recorded his Morehouse career high with nine points, in only seven minutes of action.

Five Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Chauncey Hall and Roderick Hill who chipped in 14 points each, to help FVSU improve to 11-9 (10-3 SIAC).

Morehouse fell to 6-12 (6-10 SIAC). The Maroon Tigers will play the conference-leading Benedict Tigers, Thursday, at 7:30 p.m. at Forbes.
