BEASLEY AND BELTON BASH THORORBREDS

January 18, 2007 – FRANKFORT, KY – James Beasley and William Belton combined for 55 points and powered Morehouse to a 78-67 win over the Kentucky State Thorobreds.

The victory was the second straight double-digit win for the Maroon Tigers and the second road win of the season. It was also the first two-game win streak for the Tigers who improved to 4-7 (4-5 SIAC).

Morehouse led from wire to wire and pushed the lead to as many as 19 points against the team that beat them 71-54, on January 2, in Forbes Arena. A tough Maroon Tiger defense held the Thorobreds to only 37.9 percent shooting, the second lowest by an opponent this season.

Beasley played a near-flawless game hitting 8-of-8 shot from the field and 5-of-6 free throws, for 21 points. The 7’-0” center from Augusta, GA hauled in five rebounds, before fouling out with under a minute to play.

Belton, who averages 17.6 points per game, hit 7-of-20 shots from the field, but hit 10-of-13 free throws, for 24 points. He also handed out a game-high four steals and snatched two steals.

Morehouse got outstanding play from a full supporting cast. ReShawne Bowers hit 4-of-4 shots for eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Jason Patterson recorded five points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tilmon Hollow scored five points with five rebounds and Jason Reese contributed seven points and two rebounds.

The KSU home loss overshadowed a 29-point, 11-rebound game by Kenny Jones, the SIAC Player of the Week for the past two weeks. KSU fell to 7-6 (5-5 SIAC). Jones scored 25 against the Maroon Tigers two weeks ago.

Morehouse will play at Lane College on Saturday, at 7:30 CST.
