BALANCED ATTACK DOWNS DRAGONS

January 4, 2007 – ATLANTA – Coach Grady Brewer got a balanced attack from the entire Morehouse lineup and the Maroon Tigers downed the Lane College Dragons 93-88.

The win helped the Maroon Tigers rebound from a 17-point home court loss to Kentucky State, on Tuesday, and evened the team’s conference record at 2-2 (2-4 overall).

Close from start to finish, the game featured 19 lead changes and six ties, until the Maroon Tigers pulled away at the end and put it out of reach.

The Maroon Tigers shot a whopping 62.5 percent from the field in the first half, but led by only 46-43 at the break.

The usual suspects had their usual big totals in this high-scoring game.

Shooting guard William Belton led all scorers with 25 points, on 10-of-17 shooting from the field, and dished out seven assists.

Center James Beasley poured in 15 points and pulled down six rebounds.

But it was the Maroon Tiger supporting cast that was the difference maker in this game.

Paul Williams, who averages 2.2 points-per-game, threw in a season-high 11 points, on 3-of-5 shooting, all three-pointers, and two free throws. The sophomore point guard also handed out five assists, with zero turnovers.

Kwame Agbottah doubled his season average of 4.6 points per game, with nine key points. But his biggest contribution was the energy he brought to the close contest. Dominating the end of the game, the junior power forward snagged a team-high 13 rebounds, to go with three assists and a steal.

Three other Tigers had solid games.

Edward Pollard came off the bench to contribute 12 points and five rebounds; Marlon Ferguson chipped in eight points and five rebounds and ReShawne Bowen, who has seen limited playing time, three in six points and grabbed six rebounds.

Tilman Holloway, who started the game at point guard, had one of his best games of the season, with five points, two rebounds and two assists.

In a losing effort, Lane’s Steven Fluker had a monster game, throwing in 24 points and grabbing a game-high 19 rebounds. He led four Dragons who scored in double figures. Lane dropped to 1-5 (1-3 SIAC)

The Maroon Tigers will travel to Columbia, SC, on Saturday, to face the conference-leading Benedict Tigers, at 7:30 p.m.
