MOREHOUSE WINS THIRD IN ROW

January 19, 2006 – ATLANTA – Three Maroon Tigers combined for 61 of the team’s 69 points to help Morehouse defeat the Thorobreds of Kentucky State, 69-60, at Forbes Arena.

The team’s third straight victory avenges a 62-59 loss to the Thorobreds in Frankfort, Ky. on January 3.

Jason Patterson poured in 24 points; Brandon Childs threw in 22 and Will Belton added 15 to finish as the game’s top three scorers. Kenny Jones, KSU’s top scorer, tallied 12.

Patterson had his best offensive performance since transferring from Furman three years ago. The team co-captain from Lithonia, Ga. hit 10-of 13 from the field, including three three-pointers, and he tied for the team high with four assists.

Childs, who often seems able to score at will, continued his season-long scoring barrage, hitting 8-of-13 with two three-pointers. The team co-captain from Conyers, Ga. also showed off some defensive skills, blocking two shots and collecting two steals.

Belton had an all-around solid game. In addition to his double digit scoring, the junior from Fairburn, Ga. grabbed three rebounds, handed out four assists and collected three steals and a blocked shot.

The game was close throughout, with Morehouse trailing at halftime 30-29. The nine-point final margin was the largest lead by either team. KSU out-rebounded Morehouse 40-28, but shot a woeful 33 percent from the free-throw line. Deshondre Watters (10 pts) was the only other Thorobred to score in double figures.

Forward Peter Price led all players with 11 rebounds, to go with five points.

Small forward Troy Brown had his longest outing of the season. Though he missed on his only shot attempt, the 6’-3” junior from Los Angeles played 18 minutes of rock-solid defense against one of the Thorobreds top scorers.

KSU fell to 5-7 (4-5 SIAC) and will face Clark Atlanta on Saturday.

Morehouse improved to 9-6 (6-4 SIAC) and will play Lane College on Saturday, at home.
