PRICE IS RIGHT FOR MAROON TIGERS

January 16, 2006 – MEMPHIS – The price was right for the visiting Maroon Tigers who downed the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians 70-68, on the strength of the third consecutive outstanding performance by Peter Price.

The 6’-7” sophomore forward led the way for the Maroon Tigers, with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. The transfer from San Bernardino, Ca. also had a game-high three steals.

Since joining the team in late December, Price has become a force in the Maroon Tigers’ lineup, elevating his scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg) averages.

Morehouse led at halftime 34-29 and increased the lead to 12 points with 8:17 remaining in the game, on a free throw by Price. But the Magicians battled back to tie the score at 68. Another free throw by Price and one by Paul Williams with less than 10 seconds remaining sealed the deal for the Tigers.

Team scoring leaders Brandon Child (13 pts. 7 rebs.) and Will Belton (13 pts. 3 rbs.) picked up the slack for the Maroon Tigers, who improved to 8-6 (5-4 SIAC).

Kwame Agbottah, starting in place of injured center James Beasley, played one of his best games of the season. The 6’-6” swingman from Dallas, Tx., recorded eight points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Khalid Shabazz, who is coming off an injury of his own, got extended playing time, filling in for the injured Josiah Young. Playing in only his sixth game this season, Shabazz chipped in eight points and five rebounds.

Adrian Pritchett, with a game-high 17 points and three assists, led the way for LeMoyne-Owen. Tyrell Curry and Cedric Walker scored 14 points for the Magicians, who dropped to 4-8 (3-5 SIAC).

Morehouse will play Kentucky State Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Forbes Arena. KSU won 62-59 at the teams’ last meeting January 3, in Frankfort.
