MAROON TIGERS OUTSHINE GOLDEN BEARS

January 14, 2006 – FAIRFIELD, AL – In one of his best efforts of the season, guard Brandon Childs helped power the Maroon Tigers to a 73-58 win over the Miles Golden Bears.

Childs, a senior from Conyers, Ga., poured in 23 points and handed out five assists – both game highs. The team co-captain also pulled down six rebounds, blocked three shots and collected four steals. This was the eleventh time this season Childs has scored in double figures and the fifth time he has scored 20 points or more.

Morehouse led nearly from start to finish, en route to the eighth consecutive win over Miles, including two this season. After a taking 34-20 lead into halftime, the Maroon Tigers pushed the lead to 24 points midway through the second half and coasted the rest of the way

The win breaks a two-game losing streak and lifts Morehouse to 7-6 (4-4 SIAC).

Newcomer Peter Price had another strong game, knocking down 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The sophomore transfer, from San Bernardino, Ca., hit 10-of-12 free throws and had two assists and two steals in only 29 minutes of action.

Price’s outstanding play is in part filling the void created by the absence of forward Josiah Young, who has missed eight games with a broken foot. Before going down with the injury, Young averaged 13.8 points-per-game and 8.4 rebounds. Young’s return will be determined after his cast is removed within two weeks.

Forward Jason Patterson scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

The relatively easy victory allowed extended playing time for subs Khalid Shabazz and Paul Williams who each played 18 minutes, tripling their season average.

Jonathan Harris led the way for Miles with 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a game-high five steals. Adrian Woods (14 pts.) and Gamal Kemp (11 pts.) were the Golden Bears’ only other bright spots.

Miles dropped to 2-10 (2-5 SIAC).

Morehouse will square off against LeMoyne Owen College for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day clash in Memphis on Monday at 7:30 p.m. (cst).

The Maroon Tigers will return home to Forbes Arena to face Kentucky State on Thursday and Lane on Saturday. Both games are at 7:30 p.m.
