January 7, 2006 – ATLANTA – The Maroon Tigers suffered their first home loss of the season, falling 60-51 to the conference-leading Benedict College Tigers.
Cold shooting and tired legs were the apparent cause of the Maroon Tigers’ futility in a game where even the close shots rimmed out. Hitting only 19-of-64 shots, for a season-low 29.7 shooting percentage, Morehouse got little help from the team’s big guns. Leading scorer’s Will Belton and Brandon Childs combined for 21 points on 8-of-32 from the field.
Center James Beasley chipped in 11 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and Edward Pollard contributed eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
Taiwan Byrd scored a game-high 20 points for Benedict, which improved to 5-2 (5-0 SIAC). Byrd repeatedly got to the ball and the basket ahead of a Morehouse defense that showed the ills effects of being on the road for three weeks
Morehouse fell to 6-5 (3-2 SIAC) and will play the 4-0 Paine Lions on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Forbes Arena.
