January 5, 2006 – JACKSON, Tn. – Forward Jason Patterson sank two free throws with six seconds remaining to lift the Maroon Tigers past the Lane College Dragons, 67-66.
The clutch free throws followed a steal by the team co-captain who was fouled on the play. Patterson, a 6’-4” junior from Lithonia, Ga. calmly stuck the two free throws to finish with seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Shooting guard Brandon Childs had the hot hand for the Tigers, scoring 27 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor, with three three-pointers. In addition to his season-high point total, the team co-captain had a game-high four steals and an assist.
Peter Price had a breakout performance in his fifth game as a Maroon Tiger. The 6’-7” 215-pound transfer from Atlanta Perimeter College scored his first double-double, with 15 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Will Belton scored 11 points, pulled down five rebounds and recorded a team-high six assists. Before today’s game Belton and Childs shared the team scoring leadership with an average of 18 points per game.
Lane’s LeRoy Douglas paced the Dragons, scoring 15 points and handing out a game-high 10 assists. He led four Dragons in double figures. Lane fell to 2-4 (1-2 SIAC)
The pressure-packed victory ended a five-game road trip for the Tigers that began on December 22, with a flight to Los Angeles for the inaugural Black College Hoop Classic. Over that span, the team won 3-of-5 games, losing two by a total of only five points.
Currently at 6-4 (3-1 SIAC), Morehouse will return home Saturday to face the Lions of Benedict College at 7:30 p.m. at Forbes Arena.
