December 1, 2005 – ATLANTA – Brandon Childs and Josiah Young powered the Maroon Tigers back onto the winning track with 19 points apiece in an 84-53 victory over the hapless Golden Tigers of Tuskegee.
After losing two straight games during the Thanksgiving break, the Maroon Tigers tasted sweet victory in the first SIAC game of the season.
Eleven of 12 Maroon Tigers who played scored. The lopsided victory allowed coach Grady Brewer to empty his bench and give his reserves some much needed early season playing time.
The Maroon Tigers built an early lead and never looked back against an undersized Golden Tigers team that came into Forbes Arena on a four-game losing streak.
Childs and Young scored 19 of their points in the first half. That was more than the entire Tuskegee team that trailed 41-18 at halftime. Young hauled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the young season. The 6’-5” junior also had two assists, three blocked shots and three steals in an outstanding performance.
Morehouse out-rebounded Tuskegee 55-32. Center James Beasley led all rebounders with 14 boards. The 7-foot transfer from Atlanta Metro also blocked three shots and threw in eight points.
Chris Donaldson came off the bench and scored nine points and snagged seven rebounds in 16 minutes. The shooting guard from College Park, Ga. took advantage of his longest playing time since early last season with a solid contribution.
In his first extended action, freshman point guard Chasmond Jones ran the offense effectively, handing out a game-high four assists.
Eric Wilson (12 pts.) and Harry Haygood (11 pts.) led the Golden Tigers.
Morehouse improved to 2-2 (1-0 SIAC) and will face Miles December 10 at 3 p.m. This game was rescheduled from February 11. Tuskegee dropped to 0-5.
