Morehouse/Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month Campaign

Morehouse College is pleased to announce that it has been selected to be the featured College in the Tom Joyner School of the Month Program for November 2008. Eligible dates are today through November 30, 2008.

What does being selected as the School of the Month mean for Morehouse?
Being selected as the Tom Joyner Foundation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) School of the Month provides Morehouse College a unique opportunity to:

  • significantly enhance the College’s fundraising initiatives

  • provide an opportunity to raise the level of awareness of the College and boosting its recruitment; re-engaging alumni; increasing the number of scholarships awarded and ensuring its sustainability

Why is the Tom Joyner Foundation creating this Challenge to assist Morehouse?
The Tom Joyner Foundation has been a major driving force raising money for HBCU since 1998 and is the catalyst in helping students to complete their education.

Morehouse College is proud to be the School of the Month for November 2008 to help the Tom Joyner Foundation celebrate its 10th anniversary as a major financial supporter of HBCUs.

What College has raised the most from this program?
According to the Tom Joyner Foundation, Florida A&M has raised the most from this School of the Month program at a level of $1 million.
We are confident that the Morehouse community will meet or exceed this challenge if we rally today to support our School of the Month Program?

How does the College benefit from this campaign?
As a Tom Joyner Foundation School of the Month, Morehouse College will receive all funds raised in this aggressive fundraising campaign that solicits and receives monetary contributions from alumni, corporations, individuals, radio listeners and other friends of the College. All proceeds from the effort will benefit the scholarship component of Morehouse’s Annual Fund campaign.

What does the Annual Fund do for Morehouse?

  • The Annual Fund increases opportunities for a student’s academic success through scholarship support

  • Tuition and fees account for only 70% of the total cost to educate a Morehouse student

  • The Annual Fund helps us fill the gap, making tuition more affordable. It is also a resource used to fund need-based and academic scholarships

  • It is the most effective way to support College operations and our students.

  • Contributions to the Annual Fund provide critical dollars necessary for Morehouse to continue to be the college of choice for African American men

Who should participate in this program?
Everybody!  Alumni, Alumni Chapters, faculty, staff, students, parents, grandparents, and friends of the College.  It doesn’t matter the size of the gift, but it is important that EVERYBOBY gives something to help our students remain in school.
