Mission

The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides legal services to Morehouse College in myriad areas.  In addition, the Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and assistance to help the College achieve its mission as a leading institution of higher education.  The goal is to act with integrity, reason and knowledge of the law in support of the College’s mission.

The mission of the Office of General Counsel is threefold:

  1. To provide professional legal services to the College on all matters having legal significance to the management and operation of the institution. While providing counsel toward sound decision-making in all areas of instruction, research and service, we strive to minimize legal risks and costs and reduce litigation;

  2. To ensure compliance with state and federal laws, as well as College policies and procedures through the Office of Ethics and Compliance; and

  3. To provide legal and administrative support to the College’s Board of Trustees and to serve as the principal liaison between the administration and the Board.

The goal is to act with integrity, reason, and knowledge of the law in support of the College’s mission.

Please note that the Office of General Counsel does not offer personal legal services to the College’s community or general public.  If you need to consult with an attorney about a personal legal matter, you may contact the State Bar of Georgia through its website at www.gabar.org.  You may also contact Legal Aid at http://www.atlantalegalaid.org.
